It is more than six decades since BorsodChem began in Kazincbarcika. In the early days, the company’s portfolio consisted mainly of synthetic fertilisers. Over the years we have witnessed many exciting developments in the chemical industry and have constantly updated our processes and products in line with market demands.
Here are some of our most important milestones::
1949 – Birth of BVK Borsodi Vegyi Kombinát from the merger of Borsod Industrial Trust, Borsod Coke Works and Sajómenti Chemical Works
1954 – Beginning of fertiliser production (ammonium, nitrate, urea)
1963 – Opening of Hungary’s first PVC plant, and start of PVC resin production – Construction of mercury-pool cathode chlorine and hydrochloric acid plant
1991 – Transformation of BVK into BorsodChem – Start of MDI production
2001 – Start of TDI production
2006 – Start-up of membrane cell chlorine production unit
2009 – New organisational structure with international management team
2010 – Cooperation with Wanhua Industrial Corp., P.R. China
2011 – Construction of new TDI plant – Start of nitric acid production
